What was the reason Isaac left again? Grades? CGA?

Bring Coach Cav back to teach our OL how to run block... He sucked at Nebraska, so there’s that. He's sure better than Woods....

Unless things have changed in the last couple of years, a team can have one head coach, 10 assistants, and four graduate assistants. No other coach can participate at a game, practice, or other organized activity. Only the head coach and 10 assistants can participate in off-campus recruiting. Exceptions: Strength/Weight Coach. A strength/weight coach can participate at practices and in the lead-up to a game. A team can hire as many undergraduate coaches that it wishes. I'm not sure what the assistant number is (I thought it was 8) but yes, it IS changing this very next season to allow 1 more spot. Pretty sure it's going to be 10..... whether that's in effect now or there's an effective date not yet hit I don't know.

I wonder how much of that is based on Oregon's current recruiting class? Unfortunately, the place you're coaching at can determine how "good" of a recruiter people on the outside deem you to be. Not saying he's not good, just saying things change with different programs! Go Beavs! Heyward-Johnson was probably our best recruiter before he got paid by moving. He took maybe our best two in our prospective class with him to UW when he left. His rep has followed him and grown. He can coach too, and we have to have good technicians working with our kids. The ideal guy teaches and recruits at a high level. I think KH-J fits that. Not all former players who are coaching would be the best thing here, but I do believe that Heyward-Johnson, Bray and Riley would be great additions. Riley is an elite offensive mind, and he is way to humble to overstep his bounds. Let him coach a unit on the team, be a great sounding-board, and be able to leave it at the office so he can enjoy his family and not have to carry the burden of an entire program at this point in his career. I loved to hear Barnes say that we are stepping up the assistant coaches pool. His words, “we’re going to give Jonathan whatever he needs to get EXACTLY who he wants” Pretty sure he goes by Keith Heyward now.

On the one hand, you'd like to think that JS has all his guys picked out, the details done, and they'll be ready to hit the ground running next week. On the other hand, you wonder who might become available in the next week due to the crazy coaching carousel fallout. Hopefully we can have the best of both worlds and he's already got some of the best guys available lined up and it won't really matter to us who is scrambling to find jobs next week.

Check out the first section to the right opposite the OSU bench at Saturday's BB game, just below the concourse. That's where coaches have traditionally sat, maybe someone will already be here.

Typical background checks, crossing the t's stuff. But, other coaching moves could effect some. I did hear (first post I've read lately so not sure if posted previously today) that a couple players want to return to OSU and that includes Isaac Garcia. At least two assts could be announced tonight or early tomorrow. Hoping to have pretty complete major staffers to head out on recruiting Sunday... Monday at the latest. Here's Garcia's tweet (he tagged Smith). I believe the other player he tagged was Kenny Turnier who is back playing DE at Ventura JC. May have gotten that backwards because I'm too old. Anyhow, you get the gist... www.vcweplayhard.com/sports/fball/2017-18/bios/turnier_kenny_izgi?view=gamelog&pos=dTurnier is the guy... lead JC ball in TFL... not good enough for here though!

Does this mean the DC has already been identified, assuming they would want some say on the defensive position coaches? I’ve seen some posts about the concerns regarding LB play at Nebraska, can someone with more knowledge chime in about this? Technique issue? Disco scheme issue? No issue at all? I trust CJS’ judgment, but I’m much more excited about the prospect of Breckterfield and Heyward.

Breckterfield only makes 215K so I do think Smith will be able to offer him enough money to consider the move but if they win tomorrow I'd think he'd likely want to stay for the playoff (especially if he is making a lateral move to be DL coach at OSU). Not that that needs to be a deal breaker but from a recruiting standpoint it could hurt for this year.

CJS said he'd rather be late than wrong. Inoke is worth waiting for.

I agree, check out his bio: www.uwbadgers.com/mobile/staff.aspx?staff=194I didn't realize he coached Aaron Donald at Pitt. That dude is a monster and future NFL hall of famer if he can stay healthy. Fun fact, he has a son named Riley.
