So, if nothing untoward happened either during or immediately after the game, why did Barnes send feel the necessity to send his "Let's all be good" message to Beaver fans? No....clearly something DID occur during that time frame that shouldn't have. Otherwise Barnes would not have acted as did. My problem is that his note was wishy-washy, non-specific and unlikely to achieve the result he wanted. Barnes gets paid he big bucks to be effective. He needs to start going to the heart of issues, not dancing around them. Maybe because we live in a day and age where an accusation, true or false, can live a life of it's own and travel around the country-world in a matter of minutes before any real evidence or fact finding is put together. Duke torpedoed it's men's lacross program based on a false accusation. So your logic above is faulty, action can be taken by a third party even when nothing happened. False accusations can stir just as much public pressure "to do something" as legitimate ones. So just because OSU took steps to use this occasion to remind people of appropriate behavior, that has no bearing at all on whether the allegations the player made were 100% true, 20% true, or not true at all. Sorry Nforkbeav but (with all due respect) Barnes would hardly have sent his weak, "be good" letter had nothing happened but false accusations. In that case, he would (and should) have trumpeted that nothing happened and it was all a fuss over nothing. Nope....Barnes' milquetoast letter confirms that something did happen, and he felt he had to respond, somehow, some way.

If all you know are assumptions, and they clearly are, you are well on your way to a lynching of someone, anyone, to make you feel justified in your not knowing anything.. How about we wait until anything factual is noted before we hang the AD?? The letter from Barnes is not an admission or denial of anything.. But go ahead and a s s u m e....

This is how I saw it.... the vague, sweeping statement was just to get out in front of the story and throw a little PR spin. We should get a more direct and detailed statement after they complete an investigation. I assume that something untoward got said as well, but there is no reason to jump the gun and admit to fan racism before you know the facts, but in todays instant society he couldn't just say nothing either. For now I thought it was a smart, reasonable response.

Not sure if anyone else attended the Town Hall with Barnes prior to the ASU game, but he made it absolutely clear that the focus has to be (is and will be) on football going forward as far as spending. He specifically mentioned that when the money that is currently being used to pay for the GA assistants that have not found new jobs comes off the books, that money will go back into the current coaches' salary pool.

Has he said that? I've seen it suggested here he does that. If so, good start.

Yes, no question that was the message.
There was a little talk of the PAC-12 Network, and Ed Ray took the chance to stand up and share that the schools complaining the loudest about the network are the ones (*cough*WSU*cough*) that irresponsibly overspent based on projections that did not materialize. He was genuinely annoyed with some of his peers.

I don't get it. Does Barnes need to repeat the racial epithet to call it out? Seems to me he did call it out, maybe in a manner that wasn't specific enough for some.

I finally read up on it. Maybe there weren’t any racial epithets, but somebody got themselves banned from OSU women’s basketball games for a while for their behavior during that game. Assuming that the fan wasn’t miked it’s hard to say what they were saying, but OSU reviewed the game film and booted ‘em.
