Let me take this a step farther. Let's compare Luton with our Head coach. JS is not tall, didn't have a strong arm, didn't run well, threw a lot of ducks but he sure as $#ll won a lot of games for us. He had a refuse to lose attitude. He was a winner a gamer call it what ever you want. It's time to go down our roster until we can find another gamer.

If we could take the wayback machine and go to Jonathan's senior season, you know the one where we were ranked #1-#4 in several pre-season polls yet we won only 5 games, we'd see a lot of people calling for his benching. You likely would have been one of them.

I believe we have now reached the "who cares" level of Beaver Football. Seems we have been here before and it lasted for one hell'va lot of time. Last night was pretty much the abyss.

Yeah, you really can't start Gebbia when he received no snaps at all vs Hawaii. Would be strange anyway. Unless... Luton was under the weather and tried to play through it, he never really looked right. At first I thought it was the feed just not real tight. But, it was his worse game as far as command, presence, reads, and touch. And, really we do have other quality WR... hope someone starts including them. Wait, so this week we beat on Luton instead of Tibesaurus Less? I wasn’t impressed last week against OSU. I was keeping quiet. Seeing that his completion percentage hovers around 50%, I wonder what’s wrong. Trouble is, we lost a winnable game.

Somebody remind me, how many games has Luton won for us? Time for a change Apparently a really good half against Colorado last year is sufficient for him to be the starter all year this year.

I’m ready for some Gebbia, but I’m not sure it will help much without receivers making the plays. I voted for Gebbia, but it’s not because I don’t believe that Jake is capable of being “the guy”, nor do I anticipate that Gebbia is our savior necessarily. This is more based on the next opponent (at home against a lower-division team -which SHOULD be a breather, but is by no means going to be easy for us right now) and the thought that Tristan may be called on later due to injury or things unraveling for Luton. I don’t want Luton to get discouraged, but as a 6th year veteran, if playing Gebbia throws him off in terms of his confidence, Jake probably never will be the type of leader that we need. Our woes are by no means confined to QB play. When our receiving corp is all healthy, they’re plenty good enough as a group for us to succeed, especially with the talent at running back. Togai may go down as one of the most disappointing players given the hype about their “potential” that I can remember. The guy looks good until the ball arrives, but at that point it’s a 50/50 proposition, and it’s perplexing and frustrating. If he lived up to the hype, considering our outside receivers and backs who are good receivers, our offense would be a lot harder to defend. Defensively? That’s for another thread.

Smalls at tight end, cause Togiai is still an athlete, not a football player. Togia drop of at least three totally catchable passes killed drives. A lot of hype but very little production.

I seem to recall him dropping several last year, especially third down passes. Gotta find a different position for him. Perhaps linebacker.

This is what confounds me. Luton is more experienced than anyone else on the field, yet he still looks unpolished. Why? At what point does it become better for the Beavers to put in Gebbia and let him mature into the QB he might become? It sorta seems that if Luton isn't there now, what's one more year going to do? But I didn't see the game against Hawaii, so I don't know how much of the inefficiency is his, how much belongs to the O-line, or how much should fall on the shoulders of the receivers. I know that I would like to see a few more swing out passes--things that will bring his completion percentage up and keep the defense a bit extended.

A lot of hype but very little production. not much of a blocker (I'm being kind), not great hands... mainly looks the part of a TE. Hopefully we see Musgrave out there soon. We also REALLY could use Trevon Bradford back.

You really have to wonder what the coaching staff is waiting for? Agree on Bradford. Lots of drops to go around Saturday night. Luton wasn't the only reason our offense stalled.

Musgrave also was one of the 3-4 true freshman to play vs Ok State. No idea if Smalls/Musgrave played vs Hawaii. Makes what Hodgins has been doing for 2 weeks all the more impressive.
