I’m ready for some Gebbia, but I’m not sure it will help much without receivers making the plays.

Next game is UC Hanna Barbera. I could start. The offense will be able to do anything they want so might as well start Luton and have him work on his progressions and accuracy.
There was more improvement yesterday and also some major problems in multiple places. The challenge will be to keep the defense evolving even during a week they shouldn't be challenged.

So far the poll suggests a Luton-free diet.

A new offensive coordinator. Your qb a bit off, but your o line and running backs are good, run, screen, run, run, tight end, run, run, screen. AP could have gashed them, we only needed one TD for a win.
We made zero adjustments 2nd half. Someone goes under the bus!

Luton should start with a short leash. If we are not in a position to play both QBs for a half we have much bigger issues than our qb. Split the playing time and evaluate

I think Gebbia needs to get some quality game reps, even if it is against Cal Poly. We're going to see him in a starting roll sooner or later. Here's what I noticed about Luton last night: When the game is close and the outcome depends a great deal on his performance, he shuts down. He just doesn't handle the game pressure very well. That's where you see him overthrowing Hodgins, placing a ball in the middle of double coverage, etc... No doubt, he's not an NFL-quality arm. He just doesn't have NCAA D1 ability to handle the pressure.
And folks, we're still early in Year 2 of this thing. Everybody seems to want a quick turn around. It doesn't work that way. Except for giving up some pass plays, I was proud of the guts our defense showed, even while losing a couple of key players for the game.

On paper we sure better win, but small schools have good athletes too... Less high level athletes and normally not as big. If we do not show up ready to play we can lose to any determined opponent.
I wondered if we were going to see Gebbia last night in the second half where Luton’s accuracy seemed to fail. But this might be a confidence killer for Luton, right before conference play is about ready to start. It’s easy for us fans to want to see the backup QB in action and I confess having similar thoughts at times during the second half last night. But that may have been a mistake...?
The coaches would not have Luton starting if he was not our best option at QB. He is a good quarterback. It’s easy to blame the high profile position guy... Most likely if we slowed it down and watched video we would see some receiver issues too, and maybe some good play by Hawaii’s defensive backfield. He had a pretty good first half but second half certainly less so...
More thoughts... If we only run the ball they will load up the box to stop the run. But much of the pass offense in the second half began to look disjointed. That offensive pass interference against Isaiah Hodgins was a killer!!! I saw the slight separation the announcers were talking about but did not see any push off, even them showing it a couple times. For the most part I agreed with the play calling except for they need more passing success to balance against the run. But I agreed with going for the 52yd field goal attempt, etc. And if Luton had rallied the troops just a tad more...it would have been a tough, hard won victory and that would give him extra confidence going into the remainder of the year.
Got to say, when I went to bed at 12:45am Pacific Time I felt frustrated, with seeing our players getting frustrated and throwing punches, and the team not being able to perform in the second half - so a tough loss that could have been a win. We cannot know the future but sure hope they figure it out.
Luton will start at QB, and he should...but we will likely see Gebbia this next game too with the hopefully less able opponent. If the offense struggles and the coaches think it is attributable to him things could change in the future. But they are not going to bench Luton because of a couple quarters of rough play.

Luton will start, but Gebbia should get a long hard look no matter the score.

I just see no reason at this point that you don't hand the rock to Tristan, could he be worse than Jake? I doubt it really, but the only way Smith finds out is to give him a shot.i am going to bet he gets less balls knocked down at the line of scrimmage than our 6'7" QB does.

Split the playing time and evaluate Yeah, you really can't start Gebbia when he received no snaps at all vs Hawaii. Would be strange anyway. Unless... Luton was under the weather and tried to play through it, he never really looked right. At first I thought it was the feed just not real tight. But, it was his worse game as far as command, presence, reads, and touch. And, really we do have other quality WR... hope someone starts including them. As mentioned last night and by others... Year 2. BUT... JS is going to have decisions to make if 4 wins don't "appear". I think he immediately should take over play calling. Assuming he is at odds with plays, sequencing, etc after film. But... again, as mentioned... discipline and team chemistry is my major concern. We need the top level transfers happy and singing our praises to others potential transfers and recruits. Looked like two transfers were injured, and another part of the Hayes situation. Hoping it was Gumbs being a vocal team leader and Hayes being 100% in the wrong. In any case we need the current commits to hang with us and add to them... HS, JC, transfers.

Hand the ball to Marcus McMaryion--oh wait, we missed that opportunity.

Smalls at tight end, cause Togiai is still an athlete, not a football player.
