Read an interview with Smith on OLive this morning where he laid a bunch of blame on players and none on the coaches. He was especially harsh on Togia ? Said hes a good guy and hard worker but cant catch a pass.
Sound like Andersen 2.0 ?

Said hes a good guy and hard worker but cant catch a pass. Sound like Andersen 2.0 ? maybe post the link and the actual quotes? Is he wrong in his comment on Togiai? Seems pretty accurate. Think Togiai would probably agree that he needs to catch it. www.oregonlive.com/beavers/2019/09/oregon-state-coach-jonathan-smith-says-second-half-offense-not-about-play-calling-but-details-route-running-and-catching-the-ball.htmlTight ends: There has been limited production from this position so far this season, when much was expected from this group, particularly senior Noah Togiai. Smith was blunt in his assessment of Togiai, who had several drops against Hawaii. “He’s got to catch the ball. We threw him the ball, he drops it,” Smith said. “He’s not going to be lead catch guy, but when his number is called, he’s got to catch it. Trust me, I love Noah, in regard to his work ethic, his leadership. We’d like to get some things going to him, but he’s got to catch it.”

At one point in the press conference Smith was asked if the TE's need to be more involved in the offense and he said flat out that Noah needs to catch the ball when it is thrown to him. No argument from me there. This was Smith's response directly to a question about the TE's not a question of why the Hawaii game was lost. It was not a question where he was asked to assign levels of blame to players and/or coaches.

Fake punt backfired, Luton locked into Hodgins a few times too many, other receivers need to get better - nothing earth shattering IMO.

Of course Smith is right. But IMO it is the kind of thing you talk about with the player behind closed doors. Airing him out in public accomplishes nothing positive. I am sure no one feels worse about it then Togiai.

Highly doubtful that the team took a bus back from Hawaii.

Highly doubtful that the team took a bus back from Hawaii. Ha ha! Most meaningful post of the thread! And thank goodness they didn't!

I don't blame the coaches for the second half debacle. The coaches didn't hold on 2nd and 4 on a nice drive...they didn't jump offsides...push off on a defender to catch the ball...drop several passes to extend drives...miss wide open receivers...etc. Players execute the plays...or they don't. We shot ourselves in the foot...

Grace: Well, with your bad knee Ed, you shouldn’t be throwing anybody.

That was a classic sound bite Come on man..... Coach Smith didn't naughty text or whatever communication with a reporter. Coach A sought out a journlaist that's paid to get TMZ clicks. He constantly sold out his coaches & players. This isn't even in the ballpark
