The Moose from Scappoose. incredibly talented QB. Mad skills. Let's not anoint this JC transfer to DA. DA was a highly rated QB out of HS. Wasn't he one of the nation's best QBs out of HS in 2000? Didn't TN Vols offer DA along with other D1 programs? didn't DA light it up over 4k his senior year? Luton came from some JC. He crushed it at JC. Before he went to JC, Luton enrolled at University of Idaho. .........Okay? Let's not call Luton jack-shat until he's done something. Like win a pac-12 game.......hahaha! Didn't Bobby Bowden visit Scappoose to recruit DA?---(well discussed after reading further down the thread)

Nobody anointed Luton the next DA - a poster compared him to DA as if that would be a bad thing, which clearly it would not be.

I rarely post, but on this subject I will. I hope Marcus has success wherever he ends up. I thank him for what he did for our football team. That being said, all this hand wringing that he is somehow getting the shaft, amazes me. He was a co-starter and got beat out by Seth. He only became a starter again because of injury. Jake Luton was brought in to push everyone on the roster to be the starter, and won the job. He was probably the favorite the moment he stepped on campus. Coaching staffs go with who they think will win the most games. Just because you were once a starter, does not mean you are guaranteed to stay a starter. If Coach Anderson fails at picking QBs and fails to win games, he will be fired. But it is his job to recruit players to replace the players we have. That is how football works. You can win a bunch of games, but if someone better comes along, they take your job. Now it is time for all the other back-ups to step up. They were all brought in to be ready, push the starter, and yes, someday possibly replace him. If Marcus was not able to wrap his head around being a back up again, it may be best he does go to a new team. We have all seen what a guy who is possibly disgruntled can do to a locker room. Therein lies the rub. This staff was supposed to be able to do that LAST year as well. What we got was a starter who literally had the worst season at OSU since we were running the wishbone. When that guy was hurt, we got a true freshman walk-on as a replacement. Only then did we get a guy who eventually put up an all-time performance for an OSU QB. I mean the guy had the best single game QB rating of any OSU QB in history. And yet, here we are in the first few weeks of fall camp and the worst QB at OSU in 20 years is running neck and neck with the guy who had the best game in OSU history, while a JC transfer with nice, but not overwhelming stats comes in and is anointed starter without showing any kind of "blows you away" performances in practices or scrimmages that might warrant such a move. These are the indisputable facts we are faced with here, so I don't see how any rational person can feel that 3M didn't get a raw deal, or that the coaching staff either is clueless or has an axe to grind. I also wonder whether 3M had some irons in the fire, and only announced his leaving now because he finally found a suitor. SaveSave

So are scholarship kids allowed to contact other schools, and if so, are other school's coaches alley to even hint at an interest? There has to be some rules on this. I assume coaches can't poach kids already on scholarship, but can they respond to inquiries?

Kersting, have you personally attended all workouts and practices, because if not your argument certainly seems to have some holes in it. Also, the QB that had this amazing game that you lije to cite went 2-4 last season as a starter.

I've read lots of practice reports from the media and from posters here, plus seen the Spring game. I have yet to read anywhere that Luton has been exceptional at practice, and he certainly didn't blow anyone away at the Spring game. That 2-4 record from McMaryion is better than anyone else we've had behind center. Those 2 wins are GAs only non-OT pac-12 wins in his tenure. Hard to deride him on that stat. SaveSave

Rodgers, not Rogers. If you don't know the players, don't post. Sorry Dickwaad, and sorry also in advance for all the other players names I will misspell.
Actually I'm not sorry all, just wanted to call you a dickwaad, dickwaad.

It's all conjecture, but do you really believe the team would have done worse under 3M the first 6 games had he started, and do you really believe 3m would have had the exact same games game 7-12 had he had starters reps all season?

Saying 3M got "beat out" by Collins assumes there was a fair competition. It's not like we're talking about the 40 where the best time is the best time no matter if you were recruited by the HC or not.

Luton has not done a thing, yet. He is a JC transfer. Thus, he had two more years of HS football. I don't which schools wanted him out of HS. Maybe Idaho. He now has two years to figure out the pac-12 and a new offense. And no. He's not Aaron Rogers.
Luton to me is a new QB with no cred to me. So, show me.......in a real meaningful game.
McMaryion has been under this CGA offense for a few years. McMaryion won a huge Civil War game that CGA is still crowing about ........talking big boy talk .......state champs until the next one (yet, he doesn't win any in-state recruiting battles, because he sucks at recruiting)......yet, he just doesn't want to give it up to Marcus. He wants his dude. The dude now is Luton.
I just think CGA is desperate. He wants to win badly, now. He doesn't know how to coach and develop. So, he just needs talent that will win him games, pronto. He'll go through a zillion QBs....and maybe..just maybe(CGA's thinking) he'll run into the next CHUCKIE KEETON, BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S A PTP'ER, BABY..........TURNED MCGIVEN AND CGA INTO WINNERS AT UTAH STATE, BABY........pffffffffffft.
So, yeah. It's probably nothing personal. It's probably CGA's lack of patience and his real ineptitude on the offensive side of the ball.

Ryan Nall, AP, and the offensive line won that game (along with a strong fourth quarter from the defense). I just don't understand the fascination with a guy who went 2-4 last season. As to the other question, do I think our previous 6 games go differently with 3M at the helm? Doubtful, save for possibly Utah - though that wind made all the QBs who played that day look awful.

marcus probably had it after they gave Luton a scrimmage against number 2 defense to try to make him look good!! Andersen and Co. are probably short timers.
