Sh-t, I am all in. How could Jonathan be any worse than the last fiasco. Besides he is young enthusiastic and an offensive mind. Has had some great mentors... We could do worse. I was not happy with the Tedford rumors or most of the rest. Some of them were just plain ridiculous. IF IT'S JONATHAN I MAY CONSIDER SEASON TICKETS AGAIN.... WE HAVE ANOTHER PASSENGER ON THE HYPE TRAIN! CHUGGA CHUGGA!

Well looks like he is a candidate for DC per Danny Moran. Not sure how I feel about that. He's known as a great recruiter, so that's definitely a plus in his favor. He has never coached above DB level... so that is the con. But yes, he is well known to be a dynamite recruiter. I would love to steal him over here. It kills me he is at Oregon. I am all for bringing in young guys but at SOME spot you need solid experience. I really think those spots should be the DC and OC.

I'll renew my season tickets. Of course I quit using my student ID and first bought season tickets in 1991 (Pettibone's first year)?
But the point of my post: we heard that Smith knocked his interview out of the park. I'm sure Baldwin was interviewed also. Also sure that there were multiple other interviews. Now my conjecture - I'm guessing Baldwin was very interested. I'm thinking some others (Graham, Mora, Neuheisel?) were fairly interested. It's also logical that some may have been interested if the dollars were there (Tedford, Kiffen). Now comparing Smith's and Baldwin's interviews, Baldwin may have said we'll do it like I did it at EWU and did not have a detailed plan. Smith may have said he had an informal agreement with Coach X and Coach Y to be coordinators at a certain salary and asked if he had that money. He may have had a detailed plan on recruiting specifically to OSU and a plan on how to retain disgruntled players hurt by Andersen. He may have talked about OSU's culture and gave his thoughts about the west-side replacement. It's possible that going into the interviews, Barnes and Ray thought that Baldwin was a better candidate but after and some time for reflection, Smith may have been the obvious choice between those two.
I'm mostly happy that someone is in place and getting to work.

Funny thing: I got by on my student ID for about 5 years after I graduated in 1972. Bought my first season tickets when they hired Kragthorpe and got rid of crazy Joe A.

BGSU athletic director Paul Krebs said that although Meyer had not been a head coach or an offensive or defensive coordinator, he was loaded with the intangibles Krebs had hoped to find in BG's next coach.
“Everyone I talked to told me this guy is a difference-maker,” Krebs said. “Earle Bruce said it, Lou Holtz said it. He has a way with people. He's a leader. He's got head coach written all over him. The way he acts, the way he leads.”
No way could Meyer ever succeed.
As for JS:
UW is 22-4 in the last two years.
In 2017 UW ranked 1st in pass efficiency, 1st in third-down conversions, second in TO margin (only 10 TO in 12 g), second in scoring, in the Pac-12.
In 2016 UW ranked 1st in scoring, pass efficiency, red-zone offense and turnover margin (only 15 TO in 14 g), and fourth in third-down conversions, in the Pac-12.
Somebody up there must know how to coach offense.

Ditto for me as a 1979 grad and then sat in the North end zone for many years until I finally talked our group into buying season tickets right around the end of Kragthorpe/beginning of Pettibone. I'm not completely thrilled with this year but will sign up for another year to see how it plays out.

Not as simply a position coach .. no.
He goes by Keith Heyward, now.
I may be mis-remembering, but I thought I read something earlier this season where Yvensen Bernard claims that Heyward always wears orange underneath his green & yellow (or previously purple and gold). Sounds like a slam dunk to me. Thought it was 35 that was saying that...

Glad its over. Looking forward to seeing Smith turn the program around and bring in some old and new faces to kickstart the program. He's been learning under one of the best coaches in the game, I think the best HC in the Pac 12. Hopefully he can bring in some stud recruiters, not just OSU guys for the sake of hiring OSU guys. And I'll ask again, where the heck is TJ Houshmanzadeh? He knows a thing or two about developing into a stud WR.
I was on the CGA train til it crash and burned, I would have tepidly jumped on the Beau Baldwin train, I'm full throttle on the Jonathan Smith train.
Go Beavs!
