And with that said, they go with the team who played only one team ranked in the top 15 and lost!
Hopefully this gets the tourney to 8 sooner than 2024.

Speaking of assistants - the story when JS was hired that he would be on the road recruiting today or tomorrow and some of the assistants would be officially be known by now. Anybody have any news? Jake Cookus was seen with Coach Smith at the South Medford- Clackamas State Championship Game on the sideline yesterday.

In their defense they did schedule Florida State who was suppose to be really good. Honestly, the committee got it right. Alabama would beat Ohio State on a neutral field IMO. That said, I agree that it needs to be 8 teams with P5 automatic bids, one G5 bid, and 2 at large bids. That is the right size for a college football national playoff.

Actually, the criteria is to pick the 4 best teams, period. I also think it’s funny how you make a big case for Ohio St because they’re conference champions and then close with Washington should get the last spot, with no mention of USC. Actually Actually, no its not, actually. Although it should be. From the college football playoffs website the criteria is
#1 championship won #2 strength of schedule #3 head to head #4 comparative outcomes of common opponents
Ohio State has it all over Bama on #1 and #2 of those. So how much does the loss to Iowa offset is the question. Last year the committee put more weight on #2 and the fact Penn State had 2 losses when selecting Ohio State. Yes, arbitrary as all hell. That's one reason I'm a big proponent to go to 8 teams so there is no if ands or buts about the P5 conference champions. Doesn't matter if you are 8-4, if you win your conference (or division), you play for the NC, just like every other sport. Still room for 2 at-large, and maybe even 3 if you set the criteria that the G5 top team meets a certain threshold.
As for the USC comment, not sure what you mean there, USC is in and will play in Fiesta Bowl. Washington and TCU is the debate for the last NY6 spot. Personally I think ND deserves it since they have better wins and a tougher schedule than both, but I'm obviously the minority.
Certainly those things all have to be considered, but I’ve heard Chairman Kirby Hocutt himself say their goal is to pick the 4 best teams for the playoff. Obviously this year the Conference Championship didn’t mean as much as other factors.

You are probably right. and without a doubt, FSU s%#tting the bed this season hurts Alabama. I'd like to see them play, OSU the past two games has looked phenomenal. Bama barely got by MSU, played a school called Mercer, wherever that is, then lost to Auburn. So if you look at how each are playing right now, not sure Bama wins, they are dealing with a lot of defensive injuries.
Oh well, another debate in college football. Have we heard yet if Washington is getting the shaft?

One assistant worth a look at least is nebraska's wr coach Keith Williams. West Coast guy who's looking for a job.
"Williams’ receivers have a strong record of success, with eight of his products playing in the National Football League as recently as 2015. Williams is also known for his prowess on the recruiting trail. In February of 2017, Williams was named one of Rivals.com's top 25 recruiters in the nation."

Noon for other bowls, only way I see UW left out is if the Orange Bowl takes Notre Dame as Miami’s opponent instead of Auburn (which is very possible); otherwise I’m pretty certain UW gets in.

The interview I saw he said "we hope we're recruiting Sunday, Monday at the latest" or something to that effect. There was no definite indicaton if it was with assistants or not. There was no specific indication of when he would announce any assistant hires if I recall. There was a portion of the presser where it was difficult to tell for sure if he was referring to himself or himself and others as "we".

I thought the Orange would take Auburn based on how their contract with the Big Ten/SEC/Notre Dame but the teams selected were exactly as I expected.

Compare this kind of plan to what they did att uo ? We are really stepping back, not stepping forward. Is the AD going to invest or continue to gut the program ? The search was like looking for a new home, then purchasing the one next door, then paying off the real estate agent that owned that same home. Now, for assistants, we are just going to sign up all our old neighbors.....cause they are such ' nice' people and they don't need much money. I have lost all faith and can no longer support this circus. I am out of patience and am moving on. I know I will get the snide comments from others - no big deal. I am not fishing for 'likes' or 'thumbs up' clicks, I am just expressing total frustration at what began as a wonderful opportunity with some 'timing' advantages and some actual interest. Since the direction was to tear things down, rather than make a statement... I can no longer support anything football. Some of you will say, ' we can do without your $25.00 per year donation. Well, if that makes you feel good, have at it. In fact, it is quite the opposite situation, but I am withholding money as a sign of total disatisfaction, not because I think this will hurt the program. This is OSU managing their own demise and highlighting their own failures. No matter how much money you have, or how much you put into the football program - I can see absolutely no ROI. I only invest where I can see progress. GONE - believe what you want. I am tired of being jerked around by this Ath. Department and their representatives an media talking heads. I recall all this BS talk with Andersen coming aboard too. I am not putting money into any more failures. You are welcome to take over in my absence. Don't get too miserable !
