Its interesting that he doesn't have an official role (i.e. position to coach).
Sounds like they are delaying the announcement of the defensive staff (waiting on Hayward?).

Yes, and i even know that but I every time I type it I spell it with an 'a' Usually catch it and edit it myself but you saw it first.

Whats the difference between assistant head coach and associate head coach, and how many do you need?

So, I will admit, I honest to god thought that post/picture was a fake. IT still could be and the prankster just got lucky... but I didn't believe Riley would be on in an coaching capacity. I believed he'd come in as a consultant... something that is very much in fashion in college football these days. Kind of like what Tedford was to Petersen at UW.

I don't like this for a lot of reasons. One, Mike Riley hasn't been an assistant coach at the collegiate level in a LONG time. Head Coaches usually have a control factor about them and it's part of the competitive personality. I have a very hard time believing that Mike Riley is not going to try and have a big influence on this team. And I don't see a guy like Jonathan Smith standing his ground or telling Riley "no". So who's team is it then? The other part here is that if Jonathan Smith wanted to show that he was ready to take on a program, he shouldn't need a guy like Riley officially on staff to be that cushion! First major mistake, in my eyes of JS' Coaching debut. Who's next? Mark Banker? Good effing God! Fool me once, shame on you! Fool me twice shame on me! Fool me three times.... Go Beavs!

I was warming to the idea of a position coach/consultant but like many of you worried that making Mike Asst Head Coach was perhaps too elevated. I'm willing to give JS the benefit of the doubt on this for now. As long as he isn't in charge of clock management we'll probably be OK.

I trust Niner! Welcome back MR!
I think MR is classy enough not to undermine Coach Smith in any way and we need to trust CJS to build his staff as he sees fit.

I feel the same way but its his staff to hire so I am just gonna hope it works out.

So we can start poaching UW, Nebraska, and soon Duck recruits. Sounds good to me.
