It is an "exclusive" article for the Oregonian, so I won't link it. It is frontish page though.
Long story short, PSU (can't blame them) stand to lose $950,000 from the cancelled games. This is something tossed around on the board before when the conference only schedule was announced in the way off rails thread.
Tough spot. Without fans, OSU doesn't exactly have a spare half mil laying around either.

Your losses aren't anymore important than ours, and we're losing a butt load more I'd bet!!!

6 months ago, they probably could have bought a specialty insurance policy through Lloyd's for $20000.

We need to remember this in the future. Quit scheduling games with PSU. Let them find their cash cow somewhere else.

We should also never play a team the refuses to give us a return trip. When Anderpants had us battling Ohio State and Michigan as our first games of the year, many here cried foul. I tend to think that I'd like to see our boys doing the beating in the first games of the year rather being beaten.
D2 games provide the coaches a chance to see our players execute in a real game situations without the fear of getting pummeled. Of course, that happens every now and again anyway.

There is a happy medium between playing Ohio State and Portland State. Perhaps start the season with a lower level group of 5 program like San Jose St or Wyoming. At least they have an equal number of scholarship players. Personally I would like to see the FBS - FCS games done away with - with rare exceptions they are not competitive and if the only way the Portland States of the world can survive is to play "body bag" games perhaps they should reexamine their athletic department and how they finance it.

I agree. Colorado St was perfect. Until we got our heads kicked in of course.

Portland State is not a D2 program.

I figure if the SEC schools schedule 1-2 games a year against FCS schools, the Pac 12 should do the same.

2017......OS 35 PSU 32 on a late drive Luton to Hodgins PSU then drove to OS 29 yd line and missed a 46 yd FG Ryan Nall w/59 yds

And we should've lost that game to PSU--we got a gift from the refs. We've lost to them in the past. I don't mind because I recognize that the team is working on various aspects of play and the coaches are observing closely to see what needs refinement.
In a perfect world, with a healthy program, we won't lose those games.
That near loss to PSU (which really should've been a loss) wasn't a pummeling on the scoreboard, but it was a sign of the times. The Minnesota game the following week was a pummeling both on and off the scoreboard.

When have we lost to a D2 school?
When have we lost to Portland State?
