Wow...didn't expect that response. I also went to LSU, Michigan......good times. Corvallis fans need to get out and see more of the college football landscape. It's a pretty fun world out there.....and yeah, Beavs get beat down...so be it......what I remember most about my times in Baton Rouge have nothing to do with the football game. Visiting Columbus Ohio ain't exactly on my bucket list. I don't blame you for wanting to forget the missed PAT's

I say we grow a pair and play the game. Good coaching will allow OSU to rebound if (admittedly, most likely when) we got it handed to us at Ohio State. A good model for courage might be Fresno State.
Last year, CSUF got their only win over FCS Sacramento State, fired their coach in mid-October and, as their OC took over for the rest of the year, limped to a miserable 1-11. They brought in Tedford and didn't back out of their schedule which included a second game at Alabama (which, I suppose, might be in Ohio St.'s class) and a third game at Washington, two teams coming off an appearance in the College Football Playoff the previous season and both with a realistic shot at a return trip. But Fresno St. played them relatively tough, given the circumstances, losing to Alabama 41-10 and Washington 48-16. Did that destroy their season, taking on two Top 10 teams on the road as their out of conference schedule?
No. They found their QB by game 5 of the season and never looked back on their way to a 9-3 regular season, a shot at the MWC title, a top 25 ranking, at a shot at the best bowl the MWC can get.
Obviously, the Pac 12 is a much, much tougher conference (in my opinion, the MWC sucks) and so I don't expect a shot at the title game next year. But hey...if OSU can play the Buckeyes with some vigor and use the game as a learning experience and a chance to get a $1.7 million check, then play the damn game. Even if OSU gets blasted out of the stadium, it's one game and there will plenty of time to get better by the end of the season, which is really what we will be hoping for: to get better.

I have no problem with going to the horseshoe. #1 it will be considered an impossible win for them, so nothing will be expected. #2 I am sure it will be a money maker for the school and for football. #3 I went to Penn State, Wisconcin, Michigan, LSU, Minnesota and have been entertained every time. The only folks I thought were out of line were some of the Michigan fans, but what can you expect form a fan base with Harbaugh at the helm. We should have won at LSU and I am not so sure we shouldn't have won at Minnesota. Yes, we will most likely lose big time, but the game is set at this point. I go and support the football team, especially with it being Smith's first game as H.C. I also think it should be taken off the schedule... but I've been to all the big away games. Every fan base says tOSU fans are the worst and ruin any game day experience. And much like Michigan the Stadium is not tailgate friendly to visitors and not close to great bars. Had a GREAT time at each of the others. Minny was prob the best because of the ease to move around without a car. Twins, Vikings, Minny, Mall of America, airport all a train ride away. and the downtown was full of great places. This one is TV only for me... and hoping the rumor is correct that OSU is trying to find tOSU another opponent.

If our team is going to pack it in after one loss in a game everyone expects them to lose, things aren't getting better any time soon no matter what. With little depth and new schemes this game could effect the remainder of the season if we get just one or two key injuries. People will always argue the injuries can happen in every game. I'll argue that they are more likely playing bigger, faster, stronger, deeper opponents trying to send a message in game 1 to the polsters.

If our team is going to pack it in after one loss in a game everyone expects them to lose, things aren't getting better any time soon no matter what. You are entitled to that opinion. I disagree. Psychology matters in sports and starting off with a win vs. a loss can make a big difference. You are correct that you never know or can prove one way or the other what difference that early game makes but IMO a scheduling policy that led moving the Stanford game up to week one in 2008 (probably cost Riley his Rose Bowl), led to playing TCU to open 2010, etc.... has cost this team Bowl positioning in the past. Foolish scheduling is unacceptable to me. You are okay with it. Cool, all I said originally is no way in hell will I support such a game scheduling policy by attending such a game. So let me get this straight. You don’t like it?

We keep talking about how getting our butts handed to us will damage the kids psyche (except for baseba1111 who thinks it will actually damage our butts), but what kind of message does it send to the team to say "you don't belong on the field with Ohio State...we'll find someone more your speed so your feelings don't get hurt?"

Well said. Not to mention that with any semblance of a competent coaching staff and a QB, we're not real far from maybe a 4 win team? maybe even a 5 win team with a break or two? Would we be wringing hands if a 4-8 team was heading to Ohio State next season? Probably not to the same extent. and let's give our players some credit when it comes to psyches and big bad Ohio State. They aren't dumb. They know what they are up against and I bet a lot of them are excited for the opportunity.

Nope but if they give that kind of performance than I would consider a wasted opportunity to actually get a win because if they give that kind of performance than they are good enough to win 3-4 conference games and playing Ohio State may be the difference between going bowling and not going bowling. There is just no upside to the game (barring a miracle and winning and if they do that I will gladly eat all the crow in the world) I can think of $1.8M+ upsides. So, over $1M+ more than they could possibly benefit playing in the Las Vegas or Cactus Bowl, if that game was the only difference keeping them out of such. I don't expect 6 wins in 2018 to begin with. You shouldn't, either. If they "only" win 5 games next year, feel free to come back with a "I told you so." Otherwise it's of zero consequence, whatsoever (as a net negative). I still disagree that there are no negatives. Setting kids up for failure is a negative in an of itself in my opinion. And I wasn't the one that expected 6 wins, I was responding the fever saying he had that as a best case scenario, my gripe with this game has little to do with the possibility of being Bowl eligible and more to do with this idea that OSU is playing bodybag games for paychecks. That is pathetic and needs to end. if the only upside is the cash, you shouldn't be playing the game.

Note: Played them in the 2nd and 3rd games. After they opened with a 66-0 confidence building win. I already said it'd be different (I'd still hate the idea of a paycheck bodybag game) if it was their 2nd or 3rd game. You don't open at Ohio State.

Youngorst, believe me it wouldn't have been on mine either, but after several people, whom I trust, (granted one is a Duck fan) have said it was one of most fun college towns they ever visited, that intrigued me.

I wouldn’t get out of the Ohio State game unless the players wanted out. They know what they’re facing. If they WANT a challenge, give it to them and give them something to work towards all offseason.

The same thing was said when the LSU game was scheduled and the game came down to missed extra points...
Playing in Ohio Stadium is a once-in-a-lifetime event for most of the players.
I missed the LSU trip. This is a bucket list event!
