[Shrug] There is every possibility that he stays here until the end of this season. After all the new league doesn't even start until February. He could coach out this season and help with recruiting until the season likely ends in November. (And if we are still playing after November were are doing so well we can easily weather his loss.) The new league likely doesn't need much from him until the games are closer anyways. I don't image they will have much for the coaches to do until about November in the first place. As others have said we are losing our TEs coach for a head coaching job. This is hardly the end of the world. Is Normal as Anderson Silva would say. If MR stays through the season i will revise my opinion. The (mostly) entire reason he was hired was to shepherd JS through the first time head coach experience. Put together a Spring ball practice plan. a summer plan. How do we strategize each team on our schedule. How do we assign duties to the Asst Coaches. How do we build a team structure. MR bailed before he was finished. Don't care if it was for a HC position. IMO he was hired to help JS through his initial season. I'm like MR a lot. Now? He sleeps with the fishes. (no fish were harmed in this allegation)

I left that one off because, while Martin won a World Series while manager the first time as a Yankees manager, he never got back there again. In fact, he never made the playoffs again, and it's not like the Yankees improved or fell off dramatically after his tenures, to the point where you could say Martin had an influence on other results. With Riley, you could very clearly see he was building something before Dennis put a rocket booster on the program. After 2000, when we kind of came back to Earth, Riley took Erickson's one great and two good years, and turned it a good half decade of really good years.
And then we got Captain Ander-pants and his blowtorch.

OK So let say Riley is gone.
Who do you want to replace him?
Who do you want to see as our next TE coach?

I, for one, don't really care, except that it makes OSU look super desperate--to hire back a coach who was only using them as a layover until he could find something better. But I am seriously surprised that San Antonio, Texas wants a coach who failed miserably at Nebraska. Lot of other people would be on my list before MR. This is what all coaches do. ALL of them. The only thing different about this is the timing, in which he is now taking a position that didn't even exist when he accepted a role at Oregon State. Justin Wilcox went from Boise to Tennessee to Washington to USC to Wisconsin to Cal in less than a decade Mike McIntyre was only at SJSU for three seasons before jumping to Colorado Dennis Erickson Went from Idaho to Wyoming to Washington State to Miami in less than a decade, then used Idaho again for a year before going to Arizona State. When I got out of college, I worked three jobs in less than a year before finding one that really fit. Starbucks doesn’t count......

Form that article it sounds to me like he's here through November, after that he could be encroaching on the 5 month commitment period. It makes sense to me that he could serve the team in a non-coaching position.

It makes sense to me that he could serve the team in a non-coaching position. You know... from a retirement standpoint, he'd get to spend Summer/Fall in Corvallis and Winter/Spring in San Antonio. That's a pretty sweet deal. I'm curious how demanding the Alliance of Football gig will be on a head coach. He'd be working with more people and bringing more information/ideas back to Corvallis, we'd have a direct pipeline for our players to go to a minor league team. Doesn't really sound that bad.

Not top mention his visibility in Texas will increase. If he can continue to work with recruiting coordination or assessment or as a coaching consultant, the team might see some benefit from his "name" in that region.

Why did I know that this would be coming from the biggest RILEY supporter in his family..... You are a true believer, and EVERYONE is proud to see your ongoing support. Maybe, if you are not already a family member, you can be adopted and have a great life traveling around form State to State ( and maybe Canada ), getting a split on his contract payoffs, just to get rid of him ! That will be so sweet !
